Wacky Brass Quintet: the Magnificent Five

The Wacky Brass Quintet was born from the desire of five young musicians to convey the beauty of brass music into a refined and intriguing performance.

They were born in Liguria, a lovely region in northern Italy, on the sea; after graduating from the Conservatoire, they decided to enhance their ensamble performarce by attended four Gomalan Brass Quintet master classes, the last of them in 2010, when they also attended Penta Brass and Ronald Romm master class.

The members of the Wacky Brass Quintet also play as solist, in chamber ensambles and National and international orchestras such as the “Teatro alla Scala” of Milan, the “Teatro Carlo Felice” of Genoa, the “Teatro Lirico” of Cagliari, the “Maggio Musicale Fiorentino”, the “Teatro Verdi” of Trieste, the “Arena di Verona” and the “Orchestre Symphonique du Jura”.

The quintet repertoire is broad and heterogeneous, it ranges form the elegance and allure of antique, classic, romantic music and opera, to movies soundtracks, leading even to jazz, folk and pop music. They arranged the greater part of the scores.

In 2006 they represented the city of Genoa at “San Giovanni Battista” fair in Rome. In 2007 they were the runners-up at “Concorso Internazionale di Musica per Giovani Interpreti” of Chieri, Torino, in 2008 they auto-produced their first CD.

They gained the merit level at the TIM (Torneo Internazionale Musica). They were the finalists in the “Maggio Off Music Contest 2008”, hosted by the “Maggio Musicale Fiorentino”. They were selected to compete in the brass quintet contest “Koetsier-Competition 2008” in Munich.

In 2009 together with the comedians Bottesini&Paci they played and acted in the comedy “Piuttosto nudi ma con la sciarpa”, creating a totally new performance, where music and cabaret entangled themselves and gave birth to a unique and stunning show. They were the runners-up at the chamber music competition “Nuovi Orizzonti 2009” of Arezzo, and they won the first prize “Il Corallino” at the “Concorso Internazionale di Cervo” of Cervo, Imperia.

In the last two years the Wacky Brass Quintet carried out an intense concert activity; they performed in over fifty concerts in churches, villas, concert halls and cultural associations, and they were always met with the love of the public and the attention of the local press.
